Low Testosterone Linked to Risk of Death

Now I’m not one to induce worry, or create wide spread panic, and I’m certain this is no new pandemic. However, US research is suggesting testosterone levels in men, are something not to be taken lightly.

A study conducted in California shows that men over 50 have a 33% increased risk of death than those with higher testosterone.

The advice given, was that men should remain active and seek to increase their testosterone naturally, rather than sythesised chemical solutions.

The study was conducted with a sample of 300 men over a 37 year period, with the findings showing that the increased risk of death in men, couldn't be accounted for by any of the usual contenders such as smoking, alcohol, pre-disposition to certain diseases, or physical activity level.

The author of the study Dr Gail Laughlin, an assistant professor at the university of California, was quoted as saying "Our study strongly suggests that the association between testosterone levels and death is not simply due to some acute illness".

And mentioned that testosterone levels may be linked to lifestyle, and that they could be altered through lowering obesity.

So how would you know if you were suffering from low testosterone?

The symptom’s range from lack of energy, inability to put on muscle, obesity, to lowered libido and restlessness. Unfortunately the only real way to know is via a test at your local clinic, however doctors seem hesitant to order them, and many are forced to go private with a fee around £60, or Roughly $100.

The natural solution to overcoming lowered testosterone includes getting involved in more energetic activities such as running, cycling or generally visiting the gym more.

Increasing sexual activity has also been found to increase testosterone levels, as well as extracts from many natural plants and herbs.

These supplements seem to obvious way to boost levels for those on the go, though come in various guises, as libido enhancers, and aphrodisiacs.
